Living out God's Love 1 John 4:7-21

Download this episode (31 min)
If you think about it, you can remember a time when someone showed you unconditional love. A need was met, a word of encouragement was spoken, assistance came for a project or a gift was given that was unexpected. They initiated the action, they sacrificed for you, they showed you God “with skin” on.

In this sermon Pastor Scott reminds us that when you and I show love to those around us who cannot repay us, we live out the message of what it means to serve a loving God. God is Love and when we say we love God we need to love others as God loves them.

My boys were at soccer practice this past Tuesday. Most parents stay around to watch their kids play. One of the dads, whom I was sitting next to, was having a very difficult time getting his boys out to play with the other kids.

I could tell the father was becoming impatient with their whining, but they just kept sitting next to him saying they didn't want to play and that they didn't know how to play. He started yelling, even to the point of saying "I don't like quitters"

Having my two boys, I have so often been in this situation--lost my patience and turned to anger. I held my tongue, but then thought..you know what...say something encouraging and show God's love instead of judging him on his parenting.

So in the end, I encouraged him by talking about times when my boys have frustrated me and to hang in there. Surprisingly, he listened and we talked the rest of the game. His mood lightened, and eventually his boys were out on the field playing :)
