More than Conservative Compassion 1 John 3:11-24

It seems that our political season has been as long and harsh as our winter. The only difference is that we can see definite signs that winter will end soon. During a political year each candidate wants us to believe that they are more compassionate than the other candidate. So there are promises to throw money at social concerns. It is easy to make a donation and think we have done something. But is that really love? Is that true compassion? If I call myself a Christ follower, then it seems obvious that I will follow Christ’s example. Christ actually gave of himself. He made the ultimate sacrifice for me. The question I must ask myself is, what am I actively doing to give myself, my time, my energy and my skill set to help someone who is in need? God tells us that when we live an other’s centered life, we find that our relationship with him is deeper and even more rewarding.
