Born (Again) Identity 1 John 2:27-3:10

In recent years we have each become aware of the need to protect our identity. Identity theft is a continual threat in our culture. Our identity is valuable, it is what defines us. Our identity is not just our name and address, but it also entails the essence of who a person is. When we verify the identity of a person, we point out features and characteristics that describe that person. We each have unique characteristics that cause us to stand out. We look at a child and comment on how that child looks like their parent. We look at siblings and can spot common features that reveal they are related. The same should be true of Christ followers. When those who don’t know Jesus see a Christ follower, can they see the Christ-like characteristics? We should not be afraid to stand out for Jesus. We should want to reflect his identifying qualities in our lives. We should also seek to guard our identity in Christ and make sure it is a true picture of the one we say we follow.
